The funds raised in the course of this contest (contribution of teams-participants, donations of spectators and sponsors) were directed to the help to veterans and invalids of sport.
In the football tournament (season closing Cup) on the territories of Kolpino, Pushkin and Pavlovsk districts the football players of UHM “Special Steels” team have occupied the 2nd place.
September:
On the basis of electric melting shop No. 8 the training on the program “Metallurgy of ferrous metals” has started. 26 workers of the plant (foremen, process engineers, brigade-leaders of steel makers and founders) will improve their professional skill under the guidance of professors of Moscow institute for steels and alloys.
August
OMZ-Specsteel specialists mastered the production of new high-strength steel for ice resistant platforms and nuclear powered icebrakers.
The steel (marks E500W, D500W, F500W) has been developed by TSNII KM Prometei. The steel is of high engineering properties at all stages of manufacture, is of good weldability and resistance to layerwise destruction at welded structure joints. The steel is designed for the manufacture of heavily loaded welded structures used in conditions of corrosive effect of seawater. Such steel was not produced in Russia before. The engineering facilities of OMZ-Specsteel allow to manufacture sheets up to 80mm thick out of this steel.
July
License is obtained from Gosatomnadzor (State Nuclear Power Engineering Supervising Authority) for the manufacture of equipment for NPP.
The license qualifies OMZ-Specsteel for the manufacture of forgings and steel prefabs for nuclear power plants. The license is valid up to 2008.
June
On 16-21st June OMZ-Specsteel was a participant of the 6th International Metallurgical Exhibition and METEC-2003 Congress in Dusseldorf (Germany).
On 5th June OMZ-Specsteel received the conformity certificates of the quality management system to the requirements of international standard ISO 9001:2000.
The field of validity of certificates issued by IQNet, SAI Global, Russian Register covers:
- planning and design of technological processes of production of ingots, castings, forgings, rolled sheets;
- production of steel for ingots and castings;
- cast iron, nonferrous metal, precision and art casting;
- production of forgings;
- production of rolled sheets;
- machining of forgings, castings and stampings;
- rendering services in heat treatment of forgings, sheets, castings, welded structures.
On 2-4th June OMZ-Specsteel attended the sessions of the First Metallurgical Summit in Moscow.
This summit was the first meeting of the leaders of the world ferrous metallurgy. Its basic purpose was to strengthen the direct contacts between the senior executives of thelargest ferrous metallurgy companies of CIS and Western countries and to provide first hand information on processes in progress in Russian industry and possible changes in this sector of the market.
May
On 28th May the sculptural composition "Nicholas II and members of his family" made by OMZ-Specsteel was installed near the Church of Savior-on-the-Blood in Ekaterinburg.
The monument was made at the Ekaterinburg site of OMZ-Specsteel by the order of the government of Sverdlovsk region. The weight of the composition is 13.7t, the height of sculptures is 3.5-4m, the total height of the composition (with the cross) is 9m. The sculptural composition comprises 48 bas-reliefs with the images of saint martyrs. The author is sculptor Konstantin Gryunberg.
On 19-23rd May OMZ-Specsteel attended the 6th Congress of Foundrymen and exhibition "Foundry-2003" in Ekaterinburg.
Within the congress agenda discussions were held on all remodelling of foundry production, there were discussed the concepts of restructuring the foundry shops and plants on the basis of mastering advanced technological processes, materials and equipment. The participants visited the enterprises of Sverdlovsk region.
April
The specialists of the enterprise had developed the design and technological documentation for the manufacture of stamps for production of crankshafts by the method of bending with upset as well as inductors for zonal induction heating of blanks for stamping.
Technological documentation has been developed for smelting high-strength cast iron in electric arc furnaces of steel smelting shop.
Two experimental cast iron meltings (of marks B445 and B460) were carried out in 10t electric furnace (Ekaterinburg) with treatment of the melt in the ladle. The quality of castings meets the requirements of the design documentation. This technology allows to cut the prime cost of parts cast of various brands (marks) of high-strength of cast irons due to exclusion of cupola furnace melting and treatment of the melt by pure magnesium in autoclave.
On 15 to 18th April OMZ-Specsteel attended the exhibition "Metallurgy. Foundry-2003" arranged by the Exhibition Association RESTEC (St.Petersburg).
On 8-10th April OMZ-Specsteel (St.Petersburg) had held corporative seminar "Uptodate equipment and technologies of forging and pressing production and heat treatment of steel products for machine building".
The seminar was held in the scope of program for skill upgradation of metallurgy specialists of OMZ. The seminar was held by prof. V.Tyurin (Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys), Prof. Dub (SUE TSNIITMACH) and Prof. Yu.Utochkin (Director on scientific and technical development of OMZ).
January
On 21-24th January Danieli Co.Ltd (Italy) had presented the latest variants of rigging OMZ-Specsteel with equipment and technologies for the production of corrosion resistant steel with ultra-low carbon content.
The introduction of these equipment and technologies will allow OMZ to supply the international market with unique metallurgical products. The Danieli Project presumes the adaptation of the new equipment to available vacuum equipment of OMZ-Specsteel. By May 2003 Danieli Co. will present the final version of the project. The introduction of equipment is planned for 2003-2004.
In thermal shop №15 of OMZ-Specsteel there was commissioned the machine for taking samples of forgings and sheets to be mechanically tested.
Now there is no need to move blanks by rail to Izhora Plant shops for the cutout of samples. This operation is performed in the shop where forgings and sheets are heat-treated. The cost of updating will pay off in less than a year.
Ferritometer A/F-1M instrument is handed over for operation to Ekaterinburg site of OMZ-Specsteel.
The instrument is designed to identify the magnetic phase in austhentic steel from which the turbogenerator retaining rings are manufactured. The introduction of the instrument for the magnetic control will allow to ensure the required quality of blanks. Instrument A/F-1M is manufactured and certified by RPC "New technologies" as per contract dated 21st October 2002.
