In the period 15 - 18 of November 2005, the enterprises of the division “Special steel” participated (with the united exhibition stand) in the 11th International specialized exhibition «Metal-Expo 2005» that took place in Moscow. The exhibition took place in two exhibition halls of All-Russian Exhibition Center; about 700 enterprises and organizations participated in the exhibition, at the exhibition stands worked 3,5 thousand experts, more than 30 thousand employees and heads of the companies from Russia, the CIS countries and far foreign countries have visited the exhibition during its work. «OMZ Special Steels» was awarded with the honorable diploma for the professional presentation of its production and services, as well as with a cup «For the best exposition».

On  October 18-19  representatives of   ОМZ- Special Steels   and   Uralmash Special Steels   took part in  a  regular  session of  Open  Die Workshop   Group  (ODWG – Open Die Workshop Group) of  Euroforge Association  held in  Bucharest (Romania).

 Prospects  of development of forging  industry sector   till  2010 , capital investment programme as well as  current  market situation  of forgings  were discussed.

 The representatives   of  14  enterprises from Europe, Japan ,  the USSR   and CIS countries  СНГ attended the session.

 Russia was represented by  ОМZ- Special Steels   and   Uralmash Special Steels.

Panel sessions  are held  half-yearly at one of ODWG participating enterprise. ОМZ- Special Steels  Division attended the event  for the third time.

The next meeting  will be held in spring of  the year 2006 года  at  Scana Steel AB,  Bjornborg (Sweeden).

In October   BUREAU VERITAS  representatives  extended in validity a Certificate of Approval   acknowledging  OMZ-Special  Steels to be   a manufacturer of  carbon , manganese and alloyed steel  forgings and castings. Effective period of the document  will be  till 27th   June 2009 .

OMZ- Special Steels adopted  new modules of  SAP R/3 System  – FI  (Financial Accounting)  and  CO (Controlling). Software solution SAP R/3 falls  into  so called ERP-systems (enterprise resource planning). Earlier ,  only ММ module , enabling to keep warehouse  inventory  accounting ,  has been in operation at the  enterprise.

OMZ- Special Steels concluded  a contract  with  SGS Vostok  Limited,  set up by Societe General de Surveillance S.A. and being affiliated to  SGS Group. SGS is  a world leader in the area of inspection  services,  verification, validation  and certification,  having representation   in more than  140  countries. At OMZ- Special Steels ,  SGS Vostok  Limited  carries out inspection  of  incoming  raw materials and supplies,  performs monitoring of  materials flow  and  document workflow at the enterprise storage facilities  and within the  production department, record keeping  of  residual products.  Reliable and systematized  information  obtained from  a  professional contractor  will enable OMZ-Special Steels  to optimize process of production  and cut down  expenses during material handling   and implementation of  logistics operations.

  System-based and process  audit  of   OMZ-Special Steels ,  carried out  by specialists of  Berlin  Division of Siemens Power Generation was  accomplished in July of this year.  The audit was made  by an  approved procedure on qualification assessment  of suppliers of  gas turbine components  . OMZ-Special Steels  have gained  considerable experience  in production of forgings for  homegrown gas turbine manufacturers  .  In  the year of  2004   manufacturing of   3 ( three) 26NiCrMoV145  steel forgings of gas turbine compressor discs under  a trial order  of  Power Machines Public Stock Company  made it possible for   OMZ-Special Steels  to come up to practicable соoperation with Siemens Power Generation.

As stated in  the Auditors’ Report , OMZ-Special Steels  meet  the  key requirements of   Siemens Power Generation. Saint-Petersburg  Works has been entered in a register of suppliers  to  Siemens PG  and must prove out qualification during  execution of   a trial order for manufacturing  of a gas turbine compressor set of 15 discs .

From 15th  through  18 th  March  2005  OMZ-Special Steels  took part in an exhibition  " Metallurgical Engineering . Foundry work 2005", taken  on as part of Saint-Petersburg  Industrial and Technical  Fair. During  operation of the  exhibition many meetings came about  both with traditional сustomers and new ones,  a  videofilm  about  plant capacity and  an electron presentation оn processing capability were projected.

 Representatives of Russian River Register  granted  an Aknowledgement  Certificate to  a  Quality Control Department of the Factory , by which OMZ-Secial Steels  is approved as a manufacturer  of carbon, alloyed and stainless steel  castings and forgings  designed for   shipbuilding,  including  ship propellers. Term of validity  of the Acknowledgement  Certificate will be   till  1 st  July 2007 . 

On 1-4 of June the leaders of OMZ-Special Steel took part in a regular conference of enterprises – participants of EUROFORGE (forged blank manufacturer association) «ODWG Meeting Ostrowiec» (Poland, Ostrovets). The purpose of the conference is interchange of views on the current state of play in the branch, discussion of tasks and problems in the field of metallurgy.

From 11th till 13th May 2005 inspective audit of CJSC OMZ-Special Steel Quality Management System correspondence to requirements of ISO 9001:2000 IS (International Organization for Standardization 9001:2000 International System) concerning designing and development of steelmaking processing; production of ingots, castings, forgings, sheets; blanks machining; rendering services on heat treatment was performed. The audit was performed by experts of Certification authorities "SAI-Russia Ltd" and "Russian Register".

The day before the commemoration date of the 60-th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War the members of OMZ-Special Steel took part in works for putting in appropriate state of military burial dumpings and memorial monuments.    The meetings of subdivisions collectives with veterans from former members of Izhorskie Zavody  took place in the enterprise. In honor of Victory Day field-and-track relay race had been organized, in which members of  the enterprise took part.  On 8th May the representatives of OMZ-Special Steel took part in the regional triumphant-mourning ceremonial in the memorial cemetery, placed the flowers and the wreaths.
